Revision of the EU Ecolabel for the product group 'Furniture': Preliminary stakeholder questionnaire to analyse the existing scope and criteria for furniture

This consultation is open until 29 June 2026.

Background

The European Commission is currently revising the EU Ecolabel criteria for furniture. To support this work, we are inviting stakeholders to share their experience and views.

This consultation aims to gather feedback on:

  • Awareness and use of the EU Ecolabel for furniture,

  • The practical feasibility of the current requirements (including testing and verification),

  • Key barriers and drivers for uptake in the market, and

  • Priorities for how the criteria could be updated to better reflect environmental impacts, innovation, and market reality, while maintaining credibility.

Your input will help to identify which parts of the criteria work well, where clarification or simplification is needed, and where the level of ambition may need to be adjusted or strengthened. Responses will be analysed in an aggregated form and used to inform the evidence base for the criteria revision process.

Thank you for contributing your expertise and helping to improve the environmental performance of furniture products on the European market.

This questionnaire is structured as follows:

  • Information about you / your organisation

  • General questions on familiarity and experience with the EU Ecolabel for furniture

  • Questions on definition, scope and criteria overview

  • Criteria-specific questions

  • Market dynamics, demand and use of eco-labelled furniture

  • Final considerations

Alignment of EU Ecolabel and EU Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) for furniture

For the furniture product group, the revision of the EU Ecolabel criteria and the preparatory work for setting of potential requirements under the Ecodesign for Sustainable Products Regulation (ESPR) are being carried out in parallell. This approach is intended to make the best use of synergies between both processes, avoid duplication where possible, and ensure consistency of the underlying evidence and potential requirements. Please note that a broader stakeholder consulation will take place to support the ESPR. If you would also like to follow the ESPR-related work as interested stakeholder, please register here: https://espr-euecolabel-furniture.eu/register.
